Towards a fuller picture: Triangulation and integration of the measurement of self‐regulated learning based on trace and think aloud data

Background Many learners struggle to productively self-regulate their learning. To support the learners' self-regulated learning (SRL) and boost achievement, it is essential understand cognitive metacognitive processes that underlie SRL. measure these processes, contemporary SRL researchers have largely utilized think aloud or trace data, however, not without challenges. Objectives In this paper, we present findings of a study investigated how concurrent analysis integration data could advance measurement assist in better understanding mechanisms especially those details remain obscured by observing each channel individually. Methods We concurrently collected generated 44 university students laboratory setting analysed relative same timeline. Results found two channels be interchangeably used for only 17.18% all time segments identified task. Moreover, around 45% detected via either data. For another 27.17% segments, different were both channels. Conclusions Our results suggest collection methods can complement other measuring particular, provide perspectives on The further allowed us reveal more complex comprehensive temporal associations among compared using single method. future research, integrated improve detection fuller picture
